Purpose
The purpose of this subcommittee is to provide recommendations for the integration of racial and social justice within the clinical phase of Tulane University School of Medicine’s curriculum contributing to the overall longitudinal curriculum.
Goals
- Continue the JEDI course and JEDI facilitator elective for the 2023-2024 academic year.
- To integrate rotation-specific EDI and health equity lectures into clerkship didactic sessions.
- To establish training for JEDI session student facilitators as well as RSJME committee members.
- Develop opportunities to advance fourth-year EDI opportunities and education.
Current Initiatives
- Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (J.E.D.I.)
- We have concluded 3 J.E.D.I. sessions so far this year and are underway with the fourth session.
- We made substantial changes to two sessions, “The Clinical Use of Race” and “Trauma-Informed Care” and continue to review the feedback from both sessions to assess impact.
- We continue to analyze survey data from completed J.E.D.I. sessions for internal evaluation and improvement of the course.
- We have made efforts to integrate community resources pertinent to New Orleans in each J.E.D.I. session, with a focus on actionable items
- Partnership with the Community Engagement Advocates (CEA) to train J.E.D.I. facilitators and other RSJME members
- We have tentatively scheduled January 5th – 7th, and January 12th – 14th 2024 for the training.
- We continue to work to establish a curriculum that will meet our facilitators and organizational needs.
