Purpose

 

The purpose of the subcommittee on pre-clinical education is to review the pre-clinical curriculum and propose updates and changes to ensure the integration of anti-racist teachings.

Current Initiatives

Bias Checklist and Bias Checklist Collaborative
  • We have collected and assessed faculty feedback concerning the creation of a Tulane-specific checklist to assess bias in medical education curriculum.
  • We meet monthly in collaboration with SUNY Upstate Medical University and several other medical. institutions to develop a resource hub to educate and disseminate information on reducing biases within medicine.
Professional Development in EDI
  • We continue to work with faculty on the creation and evaluation of PDEDI lectures administered to T1 and T2 students
  • We are currently working with the EDI curriculum director, Dr. Valerie Holliday, on establishing a longitudinal EDI curriculum that incorporates didactic and discussion-based learning.
Medical Interpreter Standardized Patient Session
  • We continue to with the SP center to optimize the medical interpreter session administered during the T2 year with meaningful student feedback on interpreter recruitment and post-session debrief.
Anti-Racism Media Club
  • We successfully collaborated with the new student orientation committee to conduct media club sessions for T1 students.
Alumni Survey
  • We continue to administer a survey to TUSOM medical alumni to evaluate and develop strategies for strengthening EDI within the SOM.
